The Indian Sambar Stag was the most sought after material for knife handle and
gun grips till 1998,when the Govt of India banned the collection of the
shed horn. The suppliers were out of job. Then by the inervention of H’ble Court
one time permission to export the already collected stock, was allowed in 2005,for three months. This time due to paucity of time the stag was exported in original color and shade. Some feel thar the stag is no good. The stag which used to come earlier was dipped in pottasium permanganate(K2MnO4) solution for 4-6 hours, dried in shade and buffed. One can do it here too, It is also possible to dye it in amber, dry it and dip again in pottasium permaganate(K2MnO4).The end product is really beautiful.
Please do not wait for another chance grab it now. Some feel that the decision
to ban collecting shed antlers is the most foolish,as no harm is done to the
animal. We feel the same,no animal is killed for its horn it is killed for its meat.
